Homeplace_
I wrote this piece for my English 125 class, which was called “Writing Word and Image.” For this piece we had to choose a piece of reading that we had done for the class and do a discourse analysis of it. In the piece I talk about why the author may have made certain decisions while writing the story. It was my first discourse analysis that I had ever done and the first time I had thought explicitly about why writers may make the decisions that they do to influence their audience. I used a lot of examples for this paper because I did not have much experience talking about discourse or rhetorical decisions. This paper was actually part of the reason why I decided to take English 225 because I knew I would be doing more analysis similar to what is in this piece. One thing I would have changed is I would have though about my own rhetoric and had more analysis about the topics that I discuss in this piece. This paper started my trend of writing about language in different ways throughout my writing in college.
